Amoeba Anarchy

I've been really loving midi skirts lately, and being the lazy girl I am, they are quite perfect. Not only are they effortlessly chic, but they're an effective way to stay cool without constantly worrying about flashing people. As much as I like mini skirts, when I'm running around and going up and down stairs due to my perpetual state of late-ness, I have no time to be worrying about people seeing things they shouldn't. In addition to this, I've adopted the terrible habit of sitting like a man when I get distracted. I understand that this is a habit that needs breaking (I'm getting better at it--really!) but when it does happen every once in a while, the trusty midi skirt will keep me covered. This amazing one from the Nathalie du Pasquier collection at American Apparel not only has an eye-catching print, but flattering pleats and a light rayon material that makes it perfect for summer (or California's hotter than summer September) days.

These mules from Aldo were an amazing steal at $20 during their end of season/back to school sale. I'd been wanting a pair ever since I saw them on Tibi's Fall 2014 runway (as with everything else in Tibi's Fall 2014 runway...one of my all time favorite shows) and when I saw these beauties at Aldo for a mere $20 I couldn't resist. They add instant class to any outfit, and there's something about the parallel lines that just looks irresistibly clean. With all of the different variations (black, white, thick heel, thin heel, peep toe, close toed, etc.), you're bound to find one that's perfect for you. As I said before, these can be worn with just about any outfit, but I love it with my crazy midi skirt to kind of add some simplicity to highlight the skirt even more.

When working with a a statement piece like this skirt, I like to keep everything else simple, and in one color (that color is almost always black). However, I know a lot of people like to add even more statements or do some subtle mixing of prints. I'm definitely going to try to venture out a little bit more and try playing with prints and colors, so beware for some serious trial and error to come soon.

How do you like to style your statement pieces? Do you keep everything else one color or add more statements and/or mix prints? I'd love to know!

  4. If you're running around wouldn't the new worry would be loosing a mule and having to back track to retrieve your heel.

  5. I'm very good at running in heels...as you should know. And running in my sense of the word is more like dancer walking...

  8. How coincidental! I have been looking around town today to try and find a nice crop top and long skirt, and here you have both of those things, and they are so lovely! Midi skirts really are very practical. :)

  15. Cute outfit!! I love the entire outfit! From the top, to the skirt, to those amazing mules. I wish I had beautiful mules like those (and you got them for $20?!? amazing). And I totally laughed when you said that you have a terrible habit of sitting like a man. One too many times have I ripped my maxi skirts because, because as my boyfriend would say, I'm not graceful enough! Nice to know that there's someone like me out there!

  21. Lol Kat! Yeah sitting (or just being) gracefully is not one of my fortes. Although I guess that's a little ironic since I'm a ballet dancer...but I guess perpetual man-sitting can affect all of us! Thanks Kat :)
