Friday Feature: The Velvet Closet

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>outfitandabit.blogspot.gr<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
How long have you been blogging?
Take Me Higher
I created "The Velvet Closet" with a friend of mine in November 2012. Since this summer my friend stopped and I have been running the blog on my own.

What got you started in fashion blogging?
It was more a spontaneus idea I would say. I was checking other blogs all the time and I just thought why not do the same?! In the beginning i was a bit hesitant because blogging it is not very developed in Greece but I didn't give it a lot of thought. I just did it and I don;t regret it.

Is there someone who helps you with your blogging (friend, photographer, co-blogger, etc.) or do you do it on your own?
Right now I am doing everything by myself. Writing, editing the photos and everything else except taking the pictures. This is my mother's job since she is a photographer. I feel so lucky to have her!!

December Inspirations

The chill is definitely starting to set in here in the Bay Area. Being a true California girl, I have an extremely low tolerance for cold weather, so this month I am really into things that look like they will keep me warm: fur, thick knits, jackets, boots, long sleeves, etc. Because of this inconvenient weather, winter is the hardest season to dress for. It's so tempting to succumb to the wrath of the cozy grey and blue and black winter staples, but I think that this is really the time to break out the brightest colors and prints. Especially against the dreary, dark backdrop of winter, it's refreshing and stunning to see these amazing prints and textures and bright colors.

This winter, I'm also really interested in winter skirts and dresses. Typically these girly frocks are stowed away until spring, but why not opt for a maxi or tights? These beauties have no business being in exile for so long, so why not take advantage of them and stand out from the crowd?

Makeup wise, I'm loving roses, browns, and shimmer for the eyes, a nude or red lip, and a dust of pretty pink blush. I think these warm tones are great for those holiday parties and family get-togethers while still giving that drop-dead-gorgeous glamorous look. I'm not usually a blush girl--bronzer is my saving grace--but in these frigidly low temperatures, even the darkest of skin tones start looking drab, pasty, and kind of dead. A bit of rosy pink and some good foundation can do the trick, bringing warmth and life to your face.

Marc Jacobs Leaves Louis Vuitton

Okay, I know this is old news, but I think it's still worth reporting.

After 16 years of leading Louis Vuitton from a small luggage company to the infamous fashion label it is today, Marc Jacobs has decided to leave. Although, lucky for us fashion lovers, he's leaving to focus more on his own namesake brand, so we should be seeing more coming out of this favorite brand.

Make a Splash in the Most Stylish Raingear of the Season

We've just had our first rainy days in the Bay Area, and I have to say I am loving it! Everything looks so much more beautiful in the rain, plus I've just loved the rain ever since I was little.

Although I wish it could rain 365 days a year, this weather does present some fashion challenges. Raincoats, rainboots, and umbrellas aren't exactly the most fashionable pieces in your wardrobe, but they're vital this time of year. Not to worry though, I've searched the internet for the cutest, trendiest, and most chic raingear you could ever hope for.

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show...in pictures!

Out of the hundreds of fashion shows that happen every year, the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is easily the most watched and anticipated by far. It is attended by only the most elite, with performances from big names such as Taylor Swift and Fall Out Boy. The world's best models strut their stuff on this runway, such as Karlie Kloss, Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Candice Swanepoel, and even Cara Delevingne. In past years, even (my favorite person ever) Miranda Kerr transformed into an Angel for this fantastic night. It is scheduled to appear on CBS on December 10th, but you don't have to wait that long to get in on the fun.

To start us off, here are some pre-show snaps of the Angels and everyone involved primping, priming, and prepping for the show:

Friday Feature: Steeze Please

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>steezeplease.weebly.com<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Steeze Please @ Pheonix Fashion Week
1. How long have you been blogging?
I started my blog back in August of 2012 so I've been at it for just over a year now.

2. What got you started in fashion blogging?
I began blogging because I was sick of just sitting around waiting for my dreams to come true, I wanted to go out there and make them happen myself. I knew a career in the fashion industry was something that I wanted so I figured that I might as well get my foot in the door, even if it's on a small scale. This lead to the creation of Steeze Please, which in just a short year has already opened up doors for me that I never would have imagined possible.

3. Is there someone who helps you with your blogging (friend, photographer, co-blogger, etc.) or do you do it on your own?
While physically running my blog is a solo mission, I get tons of help from my friends and family along the way! From helping me get the perfect shot, to giving constructive criticism, I have a wonderful support system.

How To Style: Sweaters

Today I decided to do a How To Style post. I haven't done one since July (How To Style: Plain White Tee's) so I'm definitely overdue. This fall, sweaters are a really big trend, and there's so many different kinds and possibilities that it can get overwhelming. I thought I'd try to clear some of the confusion (hopefully) for you all, and in the mean time get some outfit inspiration for myself :).

I hope you like it! Sorry in advance...this post is really long :/

Miranda

Today I have another StyleSaint post for you all about one of my absolute favorite style icons and supermodels: Miranda Kerr. She's purely flawless all around, but she always seems so honest both to herself and the rest of the world. Basically, I love her and I think by the end of this set you will too. Don't forget to check out the original StyleBook and subscribe to my StyleSaint profile!

November Inspirations

As you may have been able to tell by now, what I wear is largely based on weather. I hate being too cold or too hot, so I'm not one of those girls wearing a mini skirt in the dead of winter. If November is anything like October, it's going to be a weird month. That means that it's time to break out my favorite mix-and-match, hot-and-cold combos. Long sleeves with dresses, turtlenecks with shorts, coats and skirts, etc. With these fun ones, you can get really creative, and the results are always unique and inspiring. In terms of hair and makeup, I'm a big fan of the top knot in fall because of the unpredictable winds, although you can also take advantage of that and go for the sexy blown/bed head look. A perfect red pout is a 12-month staple, but I think it really shines in fall because of all of the oranges and reds floating around.

How to Get Perfect Skin

It's always been a mystery to me how some people just have flawless skin. What are they doing that we mortals aren't? I figured I was not the only one with this frustration, so I thought I'd do some research and find out once and for all, the answer to this question.

1. Sunscreen Although this is more important for lighter-skinned people, sunscreen should be a part of your daily skin routine. Studies have shown that sun damage not only leads to skin cancer, but premature aging. Bottom line, sunscreen is a good idea. Ones to try: Kiehl's BB Cream with SPF 50BareMinerals SPF 30 Natural SunscreenKiss My Face Face Factor Face + Neck Sunscreen SPF 30, L'Oreal Paris Sublime Sun Advanced Sunscreen SPF 50+

October Inspirations

October is when the Indian Summer starts coming to an end, exposing some "real" fall chilliness. This month I'm really inspired by Zara's turtlenecks and oversized coats and big leather skirts. Their whole lookbook is flawless, and I think it's beautiful how they pulled off the practical-and-comfortable-chic look. The jumbo turtleneck looks AMAZING and I'm hoping to add one to my wardrobe sometime in the near future. This month I'm also really into layering different textures within an outfit, so the de la Renta and Aimee Song's dress really stood out to me. I've also found a love for full midi skirts, and big foldover clutches so that's another think that I'm going to be lusting over this October.

Sorry it's taken me longer than usual to post this! I hope you are as inspired by these pictures as I am <3. As always, you can find the links to where I got these pictures all the way at the bottom. I really suggest checking out the Zara lookbook. As I said before, it's flawless.

Sealed With A Kiss

The pursuit of the perfect pout is one that every woman is familiar with. What shade of lipstick looks the best on my skin? What kind of lipstick looks the best? I'm pretty lip-challenged, so unfortunately I can't answer any of these questions for you, but I can provide you with some awesome pictures displaying the rare women who achieve this perfect pout. They better work.

Also, I love kisses (not overly gross ones) and PDAs (ditto), plus it was kind of fitting with the whole lips theme, so I threw in some splendid smooches. :)

Don't forget to check out my original StyleBook on my StyleSaint profile! If you don't know what this fabulous website is, check my last StyleSaint post Cobalt Craziness. Also keep in mind that since writing that post, StyleSaint has developed an online store (that I urge you all to check out)

Drugstore Makeup Essentials

Many people look down on drugstore makeup because--well, it's makeup from the drugstore. A lot of people think that the ads boasting "super volume!" or "long lasting color!" at low prices are too good to be true, but I disagree. While there are some terribly sad products that you can find in the makeup aisle at your local CVS, the reality is that a lot of the products are decent to good, and at great prices. The trick is finding the good ones...

This is where I come in. I have bought makeup from the drugstore for as long as I can remember, and over half of my makeup has come from Target or CVS. Although I may not be the most makeup savvy person, I definitely know my way around a drugstore makeup aisle. So now what you've all been waiting for...

...drum roll please...

...the drugstore makeup essentials!

Charlotte Casiraghi and the Gucci "Forever Now" Campaign

If we didn't have enough reasons to love Gucci before, we certainly do now. Their latest campaign, "Forever Now," features the sublime new face of Gucci, Charlotte Casiraghi, with just the most adorable puppies and horses you can imagine.

For those of you who don't know,  Casiraghi is the daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco and the granddaughter of Grace Kelly, in addition to being absolutely gorgeous. Not only this, but she is also pregnant and engaged to the father; French actor Gad Emaleh.

JustFab Haul

In the last year, I have found my passion for online shopping. Namely, online shoe shopping. And bag shopping. And actually pretty much all kinds of online shopping. I've really found a love for online shoe clubs, and I'll give a review of other ones I've found later. I recently kind of splurged at JustFab, possibly my favorite of the shoe clubs. Although it wasn't really a splurge because I only spend about $59.95 on these five items, so I'm pretty proud of myself :).

September Inspirations

So sorry I've been so terrible about posting. As previously noted, school (and now ballet) has started and my life is pretty hectic. I'm going to see if I can schedule some posts, but no guarantees.

Anyways, this September for me is really about getting into the fall swing of things. Browns, reds, oranges, neutrals, and other essentials are definitely at the forefront of fall fashion, but at least here in California we're having a bit of an "Indian Summer," so I want to incorporate some summer looks with a fall twist.

Fall 2013 Trends

As I've been talking about lately, fall is right around the corner. Now is the time to start transitioning and preparing. Fall does not only call for a change in wardrobe, but it is also the season of back to school, back to work, etc. I thought I would share with you some of my favorite fall trends and some tips on how to style them. There may even be a fall makeup tutorial on the horizon...

August Inspirations

Summer has gone by so fast! It feels like just yesterday when I was jumping with joy that school was finally out. Now is the time to reign in all of the summer energy and transition to fall. As a result, August's inspirations are all about transitioning from summer to fall. Summer's not gone yet though, so these are summer-ey, with some touches of fall.

Cobalt Craziness

As you may (or may not) have noticed, I now have a StyleSaint account. StyleSaint is an amazing site where I go to for fashion inspiration. Basically, photos from magazines, street style, blogs and such are posted onto StyleSaint for you to make StyleBooks. You can also look at the magazine, which is basically StyleBooks made by the owner of StyleSaint, Allison Beal.

God. I am doing a terrible job at explaining this. I would just reccommend reading their About page and then make an account and follow me. :)

Shopping Spree!

Last Tuesday I went shopping with one of my best friends (who is actually making quite a regular appearance on this blog), Zachary, who is an up and coming fashion designer and great shopping partner. I just wanted to show you guys what we got! We went to Westfield mall in SF, and also shot some great pics for or street style blog, The Haute Walk, which you should also check out.

Friday Feature: Ilivebytherulesoffashion

Hi readers! So sorry I didn't post a feature last Friday. I actually had this one ready, I just forgot :/. I know. Worst blogger of the year award goes to me.

Meet Tintin, 17 year old fashion blogger from Sweden. She has a unique and varied style, and is super sweet! She has a passion for fashion, and is not afraid to think outside of the box to define her style. The results, although different from the average fashion blogger, is often stunning.

Mariah Carey's Slings at the MLB Super Storm Sandy Benifit

While shooting the video for her new music video, Mariah Carey dislocated her shoulder while falling off a platform.

But Mariah would never let a little injury get in the way of her fabulousness.

How To Style: Plain White Tees

Hey guys!

I decided to do do my first "How To Style" post on plain white tees because I feel like everybody has them, and they're so basic and simple that people forget how to style them. Below are some of my favorite ways to style this wardrobe staple. I hope you like them!

July Inspirations

July is AWESOME! It's the height of summer, so time for beaches, shorts, skirts, dresses, and my birthday :). This month I was really inspired by more bohemian styles and lots of neutral and pastel colors. Summer is already so bright and shining, I think it's nice to compliment that with more subtle looks. This month I am also not wearing as much makeup (post coming soon) because it's so hot and the beautiful summer light and breeze is enough to make anyone look like a supermodel, so that's why you don't see any makeup in here.

I thought I would give you a little bit of an update of things that you've missed in your beloved wasian's life.

Friday (Sunday) Feature: The Haute Walk

Okay so I have totally been slacking off and I don't want to make the Friday Feature into an every other week thing so I figured better late than never!

This week's feature is The Haute Walk, which you may know from a few posts ago that is my street style blog with my best friend. Now, you may be thinking that this is kind of wrong to be featuring my own blog on my blog. To be honest, I kind of agree, but I don't even have many followers, The Haute Walk has virtually no followers either, plus I'm in a bind so I guess I kind of needed a cop out.

ShoeDazzle Finds

Oh my god. I really am the worst blogger in the world. Here I am lecturing my fellow bloggers about consistency, when I am about the least consistent fashion blogger out there. I also have not made an outfit post in forever. Like legit forever. I'm in a summer intensive, as previously stated so I wear unattractive clothing all day 6 days a week. Agh. My life. Among all of this business however, I still did find time to buy a couple pairs of fabulous and on sale shoes from one of my favorite shoe sites: Shoedazzle.

Haute Walk and my Best Friend

You may have noticed that I added a new link to my blog called The Haute Walk.

And if you haven't, there's a new link that says  The Haute Walk in the top bar of my blog.

Joe Zee's Summer Fashion Day Camp

Rob Younkers and Joe Zee
Good news for all of the 10-14 year old aspiring fashion designers out there! Elle's creative director Joe Zee and his partner Rob Younkers (who is a fashion designer and Adjunct Associate Professor at Parsons the New School for Design in The School of Fashion) will be heading a 2 week fashion day camp in East Hampton in August.

Friday Feature: Beeswonderland

Ever since I first discovered the online fashion world on Lookbook, Borjana of Beeswonderland has been one of my absolute favorite bloggers. I really love her chic style and overall elegance. She never ceases to surprise and leave her readers amazed. Blogs like Beeswonderland are the reason that fashion blogging has become what it is today, and why I initially started this blog. These blogs are so inspiring and beautiful and prove that fashion is not merely pieces of cloth on your body, but wearable art.

Goodbye GFC, Hello Bloglovin'!

If you didn't already know, Google Friend Connect is going to be discontinued as of July 1. If you're like me, and am following A LOT of people on GFC, this may be somewhat devastating. But don't worry! This can all be fixed with just a few clicks.

June Inspirations

So I'm officially the worst blogger of ever. I haven't posted in over a week...yikes! I also missed my Friday Feature...YAAAGGGGGGGGG I'M SO BAD. I don't want to do a Friday Feature on Sunday, so I think I'll just wait until next week. Sorry guys! I swear I'm trying. Pretty Little Liars on Netflix is screwing with my life. It should be illegal.

Anyways...

I've taken a page from some of my favorite fashion bloggers (including last week's feature) and have decided to start doing monthly inspirations. Again, this is part of my experimentation period, so if I don't like this I may not make any more. Here goes!

Friday Feature: Trends Setters

Hey everyone! Sorry I didn't post yesterday. End of year dances and graduation is time consuming. But on the bright side...SUMMER!!

Anywho, as I said here, I'm starting a new blog feature on Fridays. For my first weekly blog feature, I decided to feature one of my absolute favorite bloggers: Isabelle T. of Trends Setters.

Her style is so unique, but is so varied. She's not distinctly edgy or bohemian or hipster minimalist...she wears what she likes and she makes it work, as Tim Gunn always says. She keeps it classy, but her looks are still super fun.

She doesn't only do looks though. She has inspiration posts, runways, posts about new items she has, personal posts, and her thoughts on things going on in the fashion world. In addition, she is so passionate about fashion and blogging that it radiates from her posts. It makes her blog so much fun to read and I just need you to check out her blog.

P.S. She also has some beautiful tattoos :)

Proenza Schouler at Barney's New York

Proenza Schouler Fall 2003
As stated in my last post, since my blog is new I'm going to be doing a lot of experimenting, and I just want to thank you in advance for being my little blog guinea pigs :). What I want to try now is posts about what's going on in the world of fashion. Fashion is an ever-changing world, all about staying updated and fresh. I want to be able to keep my readers fresh on current events in the fashion world. I would love to hear feedback on these types of posts and whether or not I should continue to do them!

The Cute One

Hey there!

This look is actually from a little while ago (it's a LOT sunnier and hotter right now) but I never got around to posting these pics. I was actually freezing cold when shooting this, which explains the slightly pained look on my face. My sister was also freezing, which explains the very few photos. Lucy was the only one who looked the slightest bit relaxed. She's so photogenic.

The Summer Wishlist

Happy June everybody!

Summer is finally here! Season of sun, beaches, popsicles, and natural tans. I have a jam packed summer this year (only 2 weeks free?! WHERE DID THE OTHER 8 GO?!?! Oh right, summer intensives) but that's not to say I won't be thoroughly enjoying these 3 months of freedom.

New Weekly Blog Feature

The world of fashion blogging is so amazing. Where else can you find such a diverse group of beautiful, passionate, fashionable, and REAL people? I love browsing different blogs and getting inspired by all of the amazing bloggers out there.

A Little Ditsy

This was actually a pretty big fail of a photoshoot. I spent the whole time Skyping with my best friend Zachary who actually told me to do some pretty nice poses, but I was cracking up the whole time, plus the sun was going down so the lighting sucked, plus my sister was taking the pictures super fast because the battery was running out. The result: a ton of blurry or too dark pictures with me falling all over the place laughing so hard. I managed to get two somewhat okay pictures and many extremely blurry ones but I'll definitely be trying this one again. Even the somewhat okay ones are slightly blurry in one way or another.

Anywho...

Flashback: My Heart Goes Out To You

Hi everyone!

As you may know, I have always had a bordering on unhealthy obsession with hearts. And also as you may know pink is my favorite color. So as you can imagine, when I saw this dress I immediately fell in love. Who cares it's too big in the front? I'll grow into it :). It is so cute and very occasion versatile. Skater dresses and pleated dresses usually are, the heart just adds a nice touch of playfulness. If you want a good day to night dress, pick up a skater dress or a pleated dress and you should be just fine. Simple bodycon dresses are also good for this purpose, but that's another post. Although I couldn't find this exact dress online, you can find them just about anywhere. Like herehereherehere, and here.

The Body Shop Haul

Hey everyone! My latest obsession is The Body Shop. My skin, although somewhat clear, is super dry and sensitive so I'm always appreciative of good skin care products. Plus, almost 100% of my makeup is from the drugstore or Target so I feel like The Body Shop's makeup is a step up from that. Anyways, I recently made two purchases and decided it was sufficient enough to make a haul. Here goes!

Tutorial: How To Clean Your Makeup Brushes

Hi there everybody!

As you may know, I just finished my dance concerts last week. And at those concerts was a whole lot of stage makeup. Unfortunately, many of my friends lacked the appropriate makeup brushes and I was feeling nice, so before I knew it my brushes had been smothered across the faces of every sweaty dancer in the school. When I got home, the first thing I wanted to do was clean my brushes, but I don't have a cleansing spray, plus I think this required a little more than that. Plus, people are supposed to wash makeup brushes anywhere from once every three weeks to once a year, depending on how often you use the brushes, so I knew that I was long overdue.

Go Nude

Hey there everyone!

I have always been an avid anti-nude activist. It usually just makes you look naked from afar, and the color is never your exact skin tone so therefore clashes with your skin unless you have a completely different colored skin. Lately however, I've started to see the light. Nude heels are amazing.

Flashback: Outstanding in my Field

Hello everybody!

Since my blog is still pretty new and my Lookbook is older, I thought I would cycle through some of my older looks and label them as Flashback.

This look was from a while back, January 31 to be exact. I was actually sick that day, which explains my face and hair. And the photo quality was actually pretty bad for some reason. I thought I wouldn't be able to salvage it, but there's nothing Photoscape cannot do. :) There are not that many photos, just because it wasn't my best shoot. But there are still a few goodies. Please excuse the overly bright light...WHY CAN'T THE SUN BE DARKER? WHY MUST IT SHINE SO BRIGHT?

Monochrome Madness

Hi everyone!

Before I begin, I wanted to apologize for the lack of blogging happening lately. My life has been so hectic with dance shows (will post pictures possibly, comment if you want to see), homework, school...everything always happens all at once! Anyways, this is my little monochrome talk. Enjoy!

My Sister

Hey everyone! I thought I would introduce you all to my lovely sister whom will show up on the blog from time to time, and also, who wouldn't want to meet my sister?

Well, I should say, my sisters. One had four legs, and the other has two.

I Was Here

Hello there everybody! This outfit was sort of a weird hybrid mash up. I was going to one of my best friend's Confirmation (when asking my sister what it was, she said it was a "confirmitzvah") and I didn't know what to wear. I paired this body con crushed velvet dress with a more casual scarf and jean jacket for an occasion-neutral ensemble.
