March Inspirations Part 1: NYFW Street Style

Bringing us all the way back to NYFW (it really seems like a lifetime ago), I thought I'd share with you my favorite street style from the Big Apple. Unusually cold weather accounts for a sartorially tricky situation, but that didn't stop fashion week goers from revving up the style.

Aside the obviously amazing runway shows that take place during fashion week, street style (until recently) has been commonly overlooked. While the runways show the future seasons of fashion, wearable art, and even sometimes pure genius, street style shows us mortals how to look effortlessly chic. I could do just a normal Inspiration post and separate street style ones, but really this month with all of the fashion weeks street style has been my main inspiration.

Behold: The best street style of NYFW 2014!

December Inspirations

The chill is definitely starting to set in here in the Bay Area. Being a true California girl, I have an extremely low tolerance for cold weather, so this month I am really into things that look like they will keep me warm: fur, thick knits, jackets, boots, long sleeves, etc. Because of this inconvenient weather, winter is the hardest season to dress for. It's so tempting to succumb to the wrath of the cozy grey and blue and black winter staples, but I think that this is really the time to break out the brightest colors and prints. Especially against the dreary, dark backdrop of winter, it's refreshing and stunning to see these amazing prints and textures and bright colors.

This winter, I'm also really interested in winter skirts and dresses. Typically these girly frocks are stowed away until spring, but why not opt for a maxi or tights? These beauties have no business being in exile for so long, so why not take advantage of them and stand out from the crowd?

Makeup wise, I'm loving roses, browns, and shimmer for the eyes, a nude or red lip, and a dust of pretty pink blush. I think these warm tones are great for those holiday parties and family get-togethers while still giving that drop-dead-gorgeous glamorous look. I'm not usually a blush girl--bronzer is my saving grace--but in these frigidly low temperatures, even the darkest of skin tones start looking drab, pasty, and kind of dead. A bit of rosy pink and some good foundation can do the trick, bringing warmth and life to your face.

Make a Splash in the Most Stylish Raingear of the Season

We've just had our first rainy days in the Bay Area, and I have to say I am loving it! Everything looks so much more beautiful in the rain, plus I've just loved the rain ever since I was little.

Although I wish it could rain 365 days a year, this weather does present some fashion challenges. Raincoats, rainboots, and umbrellas aren't exactly the most fashionable pieces in your wardrobe, but they're vital this time of year. Not to worry though, I've searched the internet for the cutest, trendiest, and most chic raingear you could ever hope for.
